The guest speaker at the Mill Valley Historical Society annual meeting and dinner will be Lissa McKee.
Long time Mill Valley resident and historian will talk on the early days of Mill Valley, BEFORE and AFTER it took on its name. The title of the talk will be "The Portuguese Dairy Ranchers of Southern Marin: A Landscape of Memory."
Before the post-war suburbanization of Marin, dairy ranches covered much of the slopes and valleys south of Mount Tamalpais. For nearly a century the majority of those ranches were operated by immigrants from Azores, nine small islands in the middle of the Atlantic. Colorful and historical slides, maps and drawings will accompany Lissa’s talk
Join Lissa and the MVHS for a memorable evening on Thursday, October 20th, 2011 at the Mill Valley community Center.
